The 26th Delegation to the NMUN |
What is Model United NationsGetting to know the MUNThe Model United Nations (MUN) is a place to discuss and negotiate issues that are taken up at the United Nations. At MUN conference, we follow the Rule of Procedures to model the UN as much as possible; in addition, through this MUN we will learn the difficulties of both national and international issues that lie before us in real world. In other words, MUN is a place to learn international affairs and politics. At MUN, each participant is assigned a country. As soon as a country is been assigned, each participants will start on researching. Usually participants will examine and deepen their understanding through the following process: first, participants will understand the agenda Item of the conference, the result, process, and the challenges of the agenda item that were taken place at the actual UN, and lastly, participants will devote their time on scrutinizing the policy of onefs assigned country. After all the reaserching, participants will put themselves into the shoes of "real" delegate and "on-time" international affairs. They will negoticate and discuss problems with other delegates, deliver a fine speech, and create a draft resolution at the end. In this activity, not only will the participants make further understanding of the agenda item or of the international problems but they will experience the feasibility and the limitation of diplomacy. Nevertheless, attacking those problems and facing the reality will show the partipants the need to have a diversified mind and will truly become an asset in the future. Origin of the MUNThe history of MUN goes back in 1923 when the United Nations was still the League of Nations. During that time, students of Harvard University started this activity and as a result held its fist Model League of Nations in 1927. Currently, many high schools and universities take MUN as a school curriculum to understand the mechanism of politics, and create a solution strategy for international affairs. In addition, each year so many conferences at so many places in the globe are held starting from Harvard United Nations Conference and National Model United Nations Conference in United States of America, to Europe and Asia. About Japan Model United NationsThe Japan Model United Nations (JMUN) was first introduced by students of Sadako Ogata (a former UNHCR: United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees, currently a board of JICA), and she elaborated to a curriculum. To that end, MUN had spread to many high school and universities as an extra-curricular activity, with more than 400 students involving. |
